Breast cancer in Africa becomes a nightmare because of its devastating effects on its victims, their families, and the community as a whole. In addition to the profound emotional and health effects of the disease, breast cancer can present significant financial and social challenges for patients and their families. Breast cancer is increasingly becoming a major public health problem and a rapidly growing cause of mortality especially in low and middle-income countries. In Ghana, breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women.
The Warriors is a project about a few ghanaian women that have suffered breast cancer and became survivors. The most frequently challenges they fight against, apart of the illness, include a total lack of awareness (that push these women to relay on traditional medicine), limited financial resources, husband, sons and brothers deserting, side effects of chemotherapy, and fear of dying.
These survivors have created a social network. Their share their experiences and get help each other.
